METHODOLOGY · Workforce Intelligence Lab

How the lab measures workforce conditions.

The lab's methodology is built on transparency and operational usefulness — directional reads with provenance on every figure, focused on construction-specific insight rather than academic econometrics or predictive forecasting.

Four-input methodology · Provenance on every figure · No manufactured precision
Framework Philosophy

Why the lab builds frameworks the way it does.

Applied, not academic

Built for decisions

The lab builds frameworks to inform real construction decisions — staffing, compensation, sequencing, market entry. Usefulness to an operator, not theoretical elegance, is the measure.

Construction-specific

Grounded in the work

Every framework is shaped around how construction actually staffs and executes — roles, project types, regional markets — not generic labor-economics abstractions.

Honest about certainty

Directional by design

Reads are calibrated and directional. The lab does not present predictive forecasts or manufacture scientific precision the underlying data cannot support.

Data Sourcing

What goes in.

The lab synthesizes publicly available data with market signals and search activity. It does not rely on any single proprietary feed, and it does not overclaim what the data can show.

01

Public labor data

Government and published economic + employment sources.

02

Compensation signals

Pay movement, dispersion, and repricing velocity by role.

03

Demand activity

Construction starts, awards, and contractor growth indicators.

04

Search observations

Live executive-search texture — reachability, counteroffers, time-to-fill.

Public labor data

Government & published sources

Bureau of Labor Statistics, federal economic data, public spending and census sources, and published industry data form the public backbone.

Market signals

Compensation & demand trends

Compensation movement, contractor growth indicators, workforce demand signals, and construction activity are synthesized into directional reads.

Search activity

AlphaHire market observations

Observations from live executive searches add operational texture — counteroffer behavior, time-to-fill, and where qualified operators actually sit.

Operational Interpretation

How inputs become operational intelligence.

Synthesis over single signals. No one datapoint is decisive. The lab reads multiple inputs together to estimate workforce exposure, scarcity, and conversion risk.
Translated to operational terms. Findings are expressed as execution implications — which projects risk being under-led, where offers stall, where a backfill runs long — not abstract indices.
Regionalized. Conditions diverge sharply by metro and sector. Reads are calibrated to the specific markets and project types a firm operates in.
Revisited as data matures. Scoring and assumptions are refined as data normalization advances and the councils pressure-test the methodology.
Research Standards

The standards behind every figure.

Transparency

Provenance on every figure

Each datapoint is labeled by source — Internal, Estimated, or Public — with a stated confidence level. Nothing is presented as more certain than it is.

Directional by design

Calibrated, not a live feed

Our frameworks are directional reads built to inform decisions, not precision instruments or predictive forecasts. We do not manufacture false scientific precision.

Operational usefulness

Built to be acted on

Research is judged by whether it improves a real construction decision — staffing, compensation, market entry, sequencing — not by academic novelty.

Frameworks are directional and informed by publicly available labor data and AlphaHire market observations. Scoring systems mature over time as data normalization advances.
